The glass pyramid in the courtyard of the Louvre is now one of the city's landmarks!
At 21.64 meters high and 35.42 meters wide, it has the same proportions as the Pyramid of Giza.
This is by no means a coincidence, but was planned exactly like this by Mitterrand and

The largest art museum in the world, the Louvre, is an essential item on any Paris itinerary. The beautiful building was constructed in the late 12th to 13th century and became the main residence of some of France's Kings before becoming a painting and sculpture academy. The Louvre became a museum during the French Revolution and held its first exhibition in 1793.

The glass pyramind is instantly recognisable today. Lots of people visit to see Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa but there are lots of interesting works.

To visit the Louvre, buy tickets in advance online as it is always very busy. You can purchase tickets, here: louvre.fr/en. The Louvre is open from 9am - 6pm.

Every visit to Paris is well worth a visit to the Louvre, so many treasures holds the largest museum in Paris. It combines works from Western art from the Middle Ages to 1848, from ancient oriental, Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman civilizations as well as graphic and Islamic art. From room to room, the former royal palace reveals its masterpieces: the Mona-Lisa, the raft of the Medusa, the Venus of Milo, the victory of the Samothrace and more - a total of around 35,000 works! In its eight centuries of existence, the Louvre has been shaped by many architectural trends, from a medieval 12th-century fortress to the 1989 Pei Glass Pyramid. The latest achievement is a new shrine designed by Mario Bellini and Rudy Ricciotti for Islamic art : a wavy glass dome that covers the Visconti courtyard and floods the 2800 m² of the new section with light. A visit to the museum is very pleasant, especially during the long opening hours: less crowded, the Louvre offers a very different atmosphere and a clear view of the pyramid of Pei, the Cour Carré and the Seine.
