The ascent via St. Ulrich to Geiersnest and up to the Eduardshöhe is a special gem in the Freiburg area. The route is a dead end for motor vehicles, which keeps traffic, especially that of motorized two-wheelers, clearly within limits. So you have it quite quiet here, you can enjoy the quite sporty climb and listen to the birdsong due to the lack of headwind.

Very good alternative to get to the Schauinsland more quietly and to avoid a large part of the Schauinslandstraße. Significantly lower volume of motorized vehicles. At the top, there are paths via the forest autobahn to Holzschlägermatte or the last stretch of Schauinslandstraße. If the weather is good, you can also get over the forest highway with somewhat more robust or wider racing bike tires.

Good start to warm up for the Schauinsland route, the specialty is the Bohrer run. Accessible from Merzhausen, over the Schönberg from Ehaben or from Ehrenkirchen.
