The mosque was built in 1579 during Ottoman rule. The commissioner of the mosque is İbrahim Bey of the Ramadanid dynasty, a Turkmen dynasty that ruled the region before 1517 and continued as a vassal of the Ottoman Empire during the rest of the 16th century. The entrance to the courtyard of the mosque is through a monumental marble gate on the north. The 14-columned 16-domed nartex is decorated with tiles. The building material of the main building is hewn stone. The columns in the main building were joined with a half pointed arch, known as the Iranian Arch. The pulpit and the niche (facing Mecca) are made of marble.
