In 1968, Brande became well known in Denmark, despite its then population of around 5,000, when the town invited a number of Danish artists to paint the town's gables.
Even if some works of art have disappeared today - partly due to new buildings, partly due to the ravages of time, there are still some gable paintings in Brande.
Since 2015, Lions Club has been inviting people to the international Street Art Festival in Brande every year. Brande's squares, alleys and gables are transformed into colorful works of art when international street artists decorate the city.
