The cloister is the jewel of the monumental complex of Sant’Orso and can be reached via an entrance that opens to the right of the facade. The original Romanesque building almost certainly dates back to 1133 and was realized by masters from Provence or Lombardy; When Pope Innocent II imposed the Rule of Saint Augustine on the canons of the Sant'Orso complex in his bull, this cloister already existed, as can be seen from an inscription above a capital. The capitals made of marble, painted with black paint in ancient times, complete the simple and double columns of various shapes, and beautifully represent symbolic scenes from the Old and New Testaments, from the life of Saint Orsus as well Figures and fantastic animals or contain various decorative elements. They are considered some of the most important examples of Romanesque religious sculpture.

The Collegiate Church of Saints Peter and Orso (in French Collégiale des Saints Pierre et Ours) is a religious building in Aosta, northern Italy. Together with the Cathedral of Aosta, it represents the most important testimony to the history of sacred art in the Aosta Valley. Of particular interest are the ancient Ottonian frescoes that survive between the roof and the ceiling of the central nave, as well as the cloister with its medieval capitals.
Archaeological excavations have shown that there was a large extra-urban necropolis in the area where the church now stands. The original church had a single hall bordered by a semicircular apse; It was completely rebuilt and expanded in the 9th century, in the Carolingian period.
In 989, a bell tower was added to the existing church, the remains of which are still visible today and are integrated into the church's current facade.
