City icon. Monument carved by Augustyn Dyrda standing in the City Park.

Its actual name is the Monument to Fight and Work, but in the 90s of the twentieth century, thanks to its shape, it gained the colloquial name "Giraffe".

The sculpture was created for a competition on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the People's Republic of Poland. The unveiling took place in 1975 in an extremely solemn atmosphere, in the presence of approx. 40 thousand people. people accompanied by a 1000-person school youth choir. It consists of three parts.

The first, clear-cut, symbolizes two communities - indigenous Silesian and immigrant people, who had to integrate while living in the same city.

The second part is the profiles of working people and young people coming to Tychy to start a home and family here. The third part consists of pylons connected with each other, topped by an eagle - they symbolize the integrated, combined forces and fate of these two different communities.

Many city events, concerts and festivals take place in the park pod Żyrafą. Beer gardens operate here in summer, and an ice rink in winter.
