The salt stream springs on the Zagorje side of Medvednica, and its name comes from the salty taste of salt water (NaCl). In the valley of Slani potok, salt was once extracted from wells called "šokoti" (from the Hungarian word sokut - salt well). There are data from as far back as 1347 that Ban Nikola gave the citizens of Grič the right to use this previously known site.
It is interesting that in the Second World War, the inhabitants of the surrounding villages, in the absence of salt, used salt water from that stream. Along with Slani potok there is also the settlement of Slani Potok.
