On the sign on the tower from 1692 it is beautifully written what Fontane thought about this building: “A tower grows out of the middle of the square, eerie and grotesque, as if a sentry box with an old windmill had created it. Something of both. "

Fontane visited Molchow in 1873, praising its charm and noting in his notebook a historical landmark that can still be discovered today. Nevertheless, the village was not given its own chapter in his "Wanderungen". But Molchow got Fontane - albeit in a roundabout way.
