The Pilsum church probably had a predecessor made of wood. This is indicated by the results of a 1980 study of the Kirchwarft. In the 13th century, the church was replaced by the present building. Its oldest part is the 1240 built longhouse. In the third quarter of the 13th century transept and choir followed. The crossing tower was probably built around 1300. He stands on such an uncertain ground that he already leaned in the Middle Ages and the bells were placed in a newly built low bell tower southeast of the church. The Pilsum Kreuzkirche has been restored as a monument of national importance in the years 1976 to 1994 (Wikipedia).
