The St. Lambertus Church, situated on a slight elevation at the corner of Richard Caluwaertsstraat and Desiré Van Hoomissenstraat, is a classicist hall church dating from 1778-1779 with an integrated late-Gothic west tower, surrounded by a walled churchyard.

"Eikevliet, big swiet

They have a tower

but you don't see it..."

This is a reference to Eikevliet's distant past.

It is said, and in writings, that Eikevliet once enjoyed the 'honor' of housing the army staff of the Sun King Louis XIV. Eikevliet was very proud of this. But the residents of the surrounding villages often made fun of their church's stubby little tower. They also had a satirical rhyme, "Eikevliet, big swiet, they have a tower but you don't see it." The "Big swiet" refers to the distant past, "the flourishing industry," but that prosperity was not reflected in the church tower.
Yet, this small walled church, central to the village community, is charming. Simply enjoy the shady garden.
