A board is announcing the enigmatically named “Queen’s Leap” and way below there is the spectacular uninhabited valley of Melissoudi, the “ditch of bees”. Some years ago the valley was supposed to be turned into a great reservoir but the plans didn’t go ahead.
At the bottom of the ravine, at the location “Kryo Nero” (“Cold Water”), there is an old Venetian bridge and the ruins of the byzantine church of Agios Theodoros.
The location between the villages of Valanio and Sokraki is called Paleokastro, meaning the “Old castle”. According to the legend, this is the cliff from where princess Argyro on her mule leapt into the void because she could not endure the destruction of her kingdom by the pirates.

On the way to the village of Sokraki, there is a cliff, which is called "The Mule's Leap" because, legend has it that a young woman named Agiro, daughter of a baron of the region, returning from the village of Valaneio with her mule saw her city burning. Desperate and distressed, she blindfolded her mule and herself and proceeded blindly along the narrow path where they fell together over the cliff.
