In 1945, Count Rudolf Karl Max von Rex was expropriated as part of the land reform and the castle was used as a living space, kindergarten and by the community until the mid-1990s.

The first renovation work was carried out in 2006.

The castle has now been empty for years and is in great need of renovation. The estate is in a largely renovated condition and is inhabited. The former castle mill now functions as a hotel.
