The burial mounds from the Bronze Age were originally to be dug up for the extraction of building material. By chance, they came across the grave goods, which contained weapons and jewelry as well as a stone box with several figurative representations. Such rock paintings were previously known only from Scandinavia and thus the Bildstein of Anderlingen is one of the most important archaeological finds in northern Germany.

The original can be visited at the Landemuseum in Hannover.

The entire grave facility was reconstructed on the initiative of the Anderlinger Kulturverein.
