The Gründchenbahn railway line, which began in Alsfeld, ended in Niederaula. Therefore, coming from Bad Hersfeld, there is a sudden jump in kilometer markers from 11.4 to 34.4, and then the line descends. This descending kilometer marker system is somewhat unusual, as the Niederjossa–Niederaula section was opened first in conjunction with the railway line from Schlitz, followed by the Niederjossa–Grebenau section, and only then the extension to Eifa and Alsfeld.
