The Ostfriedhof was built as a community cemetery for the community of Au in 1821 and continued and expanded with the incorporation of the Au by the city of Munich. The cemetery buildings were made by Hans Grässel, they were built between 1894 and 1900, the imposing funeral hall from 1929. The cemetery makes a correspondingly venerable overall impression. Well-known personalities who have found their peace in the cemetery are, for example, Barbara Valentin and Rudolph Mooshammer.
