    La catedral de San Juan Bautista de Perpiñán (en francés: Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Perpignan) es un edificio católico del siglo XIV, de estilo gótico ubicado en la ciudad de Perpiñán, en Francia.

      The church building was erected in the Gothic style from 1324. Because of the plague, construction was halted in the 14th century and it was only completed in the 16th century. In May 1509 the first mass was read. In 1601 it was elevated to the status of a cathedral.

        Perpignan Cathedral (French: Basilique-Cathédrale de Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Perpignan; Catalan: Catedral de Sant Joan Baptista de Perpinyà) is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and a national monument of France, located in the town of Perpignan in Languedoc-Roussillon. It is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist.

        The cathedral was begun in 1324 by King Sancho of Majorca, and later finished in the 15th century. It replaced the cathedral of Elna, and therefore was at first the seat of the Bishop of Elne, and then, from 1602, of the Bishop of Perpignan–Elne.

          Saint John the Baptist (Saint Jean Baptiste), to whom this church in Perpignan is dedicated, is - like Saint Joseph - a man on the threshold from the Old to the New Testament. His parents are Zacharias and Elisabeth. After the announcement of God's incarnation, the Mother of God visits her relative Elisabeth, who will give birth to a son in her old age, John the Baptist. He is half a year older than Jesus and is considered his forerunner/pioneer. He lives in the desert, preaches repentance from sins to the Jewish population and baptizes them in the Jordan. Jesus also comes there to be baptized, and is filled with the Holy Spirit who descends on him from heaven.
          The memorial day of John the Baptist (Jean Baptiste) in the saints' calendar is on June 24th, exactly half a year before 'Holy Eve'.
