The Irmgardis spring is located below the Irmgardiskapelle, on the southern slope of the Heiligenberg. The source enclosure is a round wall behind a fountain grille, in which a plate-shaped supply line leads water into a collecting basin about 50 centimeters below, which in turn drains into the so-called Heiligensiep. The edging of the Irmgardis spring dates back to 1663. The natural water supply gradually dried up, and so it was artificially created by connecting it to the public water supply for around 1970. This is served from the nearby sports field and is only carried out in the frost-free season.
The water was generally considered to be medicinal, it was used especially for fractures and fever. It was also drunk by young women who begged God's blessing on their marriage in the Irmgardis Chapel.
In addition to this miraculous healing meaning, the Irmgardis spring is widely known as the place of origin of children. If the desired child was to be a girl, the grandmother had to throw a piece of gingerbread into the spring pool; a piece of gold was thrown into the spring when they wanted to have children, as well as a sugar cube.

The following legend is told of the Irmgardis Spring: It is said that the spring near the church, which is said to have sprung up at the behest of Saint Irmgardis, cannot tolerate dirt; if it becomes murky, it disappears and springs up somewhere else. It is equipped with a small gate, forged in 1948, on which a cross, heart, and anchor can be seen as symbols of the three divine virtues of faith, love, and hope.
