The rock bears the inscription "Commission in the Year of the Three Emperors 1888". Within just four months, three generations of rulers ruled Germany: Wilhelm I, who died on March 9 in Berlin, was succeeded by his son Friedrich Wilhelm, who suffered from throat cancer, as Friedrich III, who died in Potsdam on June 15 after 99 days of reign. He was followed on the same day by his eldest son Friedrich Wilhelm, who ascended the throne as German Emperor and King of Prussia as Wilhelm II.

The monument and boundary stone in the middle of the forest are not accessible by hiking trail, but a trail is visible. There is a trail sign from "below" on the Entenschnabelweg from the GuckinsLand circular tour as a dead-end trail (trail) with approx. 350m to the Dreikaiserstein.

On the Gehrenberg, the Oberteuringen/Riedheim district border runs in a strange corner. The name duck's beak has become common. At the tip of the beak, a rock face is exposed. In order to check the border between the Grand Duchy of Baden and the Kingdom of Württemberg, it was inspected every few years by a joint surveying commission, which took a few weeks for the Riedheim district.

The boundary stones were checked and, if necessary, replaced or repaired by a stonemason. The dates of the inspections were carved into the rock face. A meeting took place in 1888, the year of the three emperors. In 1888, Emperor Wilhelm I died. His terminally ill son succeeded him as Emperor Friedrich III and died shortly afterwards. His successor was Emperor Wilhelm II.

The commission therefore added the additional name DreiKaiserjahr (sic) to the year 1888. This is how the place got the name Dreikaiserstein.
