Our hiking experience in Chassepierre. (May 25, 2021)
"Chasepierre, a paradise for painters…
When we arrive, the (painter's) easels are brought in…
Unfortunately, severe thunderstorms are on the way.
Painters are not present in this small fairytale village today. The acrylic paint is not suitable for capturing the idyllic landscape on canvas in these weather conditions.
We ignore the umpteenth storm and go into hiding to experience the 'highlight' in Chassepierre.
Between the church and the old rectory we find 'Le Trou des Fées', an extraordinary relic of the Tretiare era, well worth exploring.
A network of underground passages in the limestone tuf is a true experience.
The galleries were dug out by people.
Reduce dark strokes, time to discover the idyllic landscape.
What possesses painters to come to this small village?
A hiking trail through the valley of the Semois gives us answers.
We experience the real highlight after climbing the panoramic hiking trail on the Florenville – Bouilion road. This busy national road is located about 50 meters above the village of Chassepierre and offers a beautiful view of one of the most beautiful bends of the Semois and the very steep cuesta.
Antoine knows the way (rue) and we dive back to Center Ville where we can cool our overheated feet in the well house after a strong descent."
All walks of our midweek Gaume can be found in my GAUME collection.
Have fun watching and reading
