    The wind turbine was built in 2015, has an output of 2.3 MW, is approx. 120 m high and has a rotor diameter of 71 meters. With over 5 million kWh of electricity generated annually, around 2,000 households can be supplied with electricity.

    In October 2015, a new wind turbine was put into operation on the summit plateau of Hornisgrinde, the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest. This is the highest wind turbine in Germany.
    The new wind turbine replaces three smaller wind turbines that were put into operation in 1994. There is an information board about the Hornisgrinde wind farm at the nearby Bismarck Tower. Accordingly, the three wind turbines were the first wind farm in Baden-Württemberg in 1994 and the highest wind farm in Europe.

                          Wind Farm
                          Due to the high annual average wind speed of 5.2 m/s at a height of 10 m, a commercial wind farm was built on the Hornisgrinde in the mid-1990s through a private initiative. In 1994, two wind turbines from the manufacturer Seewind (model 20/110), each with an output of 110 kW, were built, and a third turbine from the same manufacturer (model 25/132) with an output of 132 kW followed in 1996. It is the oldest wind farm in Baden-Württemberg and the highest in Germany.

                          Repowering was carried out in 2015. The three old turbines were dismantled in mid-August 2015 and replaced by a larger Enercon E-70 turbine (world icon). The new turbine has a nominal capacity of 2.3 MW, a rotor diameter of 71 meters, a hub height of 85 meters, and a total height of 120 meters. It was commissioned in October 2015. The projected standard energy capacity is more than 5.2 million kWh. The three older turbines from the 1990s were rebuilt in Italy.
