All kinds of treasures are hidden in the chestnut forests around the village of Carona. For example the pilgrimage church of Madonna d'Ongero. Even Hermann Hesse raved about her.

The pilgrimage church of Madonna d'Ongero stands in the chestnut forests near Carona. A trip to this magical area is particularly worthwhile in autumn, when the leaves begin to change color and the last chestnuts can be picked. The baroque church stands in a forest clearing at the end of a small path outside the village. This leads to a quiet forest clearing on a hilltop. A Stations of the Cross frames the last few meters of the stone path. The stucco church, which is painted inside in light tones, is still a destination for pilgrims today. But its significance is not lost on atheists and agnostics either.
