The Angel Fountain is a special eye-catcher between the market square and the collegiate church. It was created in 1574 as a municipal draw well by master builder Michael Matzer and sculptor Mathes Vogel. The elaborate superstructure consists of red Spessart sandstone. In addition to other figurative decorations, there are 2 angels on the crown of the fountain, holding the coat of arms of the County of Wertheim.

The material of the fountain itself is also interesting, the local red sandstone, whose deposits have pushed themselves like an island up the Tauber to Werbach into the otherwise predominant shell limestone.

The sandstone not only clearly characterizes the different, more wooded character of the landscape on the lower reaches of the Tauber and around Wertheim, but also many buildings and, not least, the completely different character of its wine.
