Hospital de Órbigo is a Spanish municipality and place in the province of León, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. Its population was 976 inhabitants in 2017 and the surface of the municipal area is 4.58 km². It is located at an altitude of 823 m. In the municipality is the town of Puente de Órbigo.

The Passo Honroso Bridge in Hospital de Órbigo is an impressive medieval construction from the 13th century. This bridge is known for its large size and historical importance, as it was the scene of the famous Passo Honroso joust in 1434, where the knight Suero de Quiñones and his companions defended the bridge for a month. 🌉😎🚶‍♀️🚴

Hospital de Órbigo is a municipality on the Way of Saint James in the province of León, in the autonomous community of Castile and León. In the Middle Ages there was already a small village on the left bank of the Río Órbigo river. This village, formed around the church of Santa Maria, was named after the Puente de Órbigo bridge.

The Paso Honroso Bridge, located in the town of Hospital de Órbigo in León, is one of the longest bridges on the Way of St. James, crossing the Órbigo River. It has 20 arches of different types, with one of the central spans featuring small thunderbolt arches.

It is believed that the Romans built a bridge on this site as part of the Via Aquitania, which connected Asturica (Astorga) with Tarraco (Tarragona), and over which gold from Las Médulas was transported throughout Hispania. The current bridge was built in the Middle Ages (13th century) and rebuilt several times. It is said that in January 1434, Don Suero de Quiñones asked King John II for permission to hold a tournament. Don Suero was in love with Doña Leonor de Tovar and suffered for his love by fasting and wearing a heavy ring around his neck every Thursday. To win the lady's admiration, he challenged all knights who dared to come and fight at the Bridge of Órbigo, promising to break up to 300 lances. The tournament took place in July, lasted 30 days, and resulted in 166 lances being broken. A year later, Don Suero married Doña Leonor, and 24 years later, one of the knights defeated in the tournament ended Don Suero's life.

Definitely the hostel ve Feliz in villafranco del Bierzo. There is the oldest pilgrim hostel family on the Way of St. James. In the evening we eat together. Everything perfect
