The small village church was probably built in the 12th century and was dedicated to St. Jacobus. It fell into disrepair at the latest in the 19th century. Today the ruin is a memorial for the victims of war and violence. Many benches in the surrounding park invite you to linger in historical surroundings.

The Jalobus Church was the church of the village of Vöppstedt. Around 1350 the people of Vöppstedt moved to nearby Salzgitter, but continued to use the church and cemetery. The village, on the other hand, was deserted. The church was probably destroyed in the " Great Hildesheim Beer War " around 1483 .

The Vöppstedt Jakobus Church, first mentioned in the 12th century, was the center of the former village of Vöppstedt. From 1591 onwards, the area surrounding the church in the now abandoned village was used as a cemetery.
