The Heimatmuseum Brunsbüttel was newly established in 1990 in the former town hall of the old town. The urban history collection from the former home space in the "Matthias Boie House" was integrated into the exhibition. Shown is the eventful history of the village at the entrance of the Kiel Canal on the basis of historical maps, plans, photos and other documents. Arts and crafts from the fields of work and life of the Brunsbüttel families as well as documents on the work of Brunsbüttel personalities such as artists and poets, Cap Horniers, pilots, whalers, peat cutters, etc. form the focal points.

At irregular intervals special exhibitions on different topics are shown.
