You will find a similar information board at every entrance to the Webbekomsbroek-Borchbeemden nature reserve. This is at the beginning of the path that leads from church village Zelk (part of Zelem) to Webbekom and on to Diest and Zelem itself.

Since the end of the last century, the Webbekoms Broek has been a controlled flood area of 240 hectares that protects residents in the Demer Valley against flooding.

Because of its beautiful grasslands, reedlands, groves, unique flowers and many water and marsh birds, it is sometimes given the poetic nickname 'waiting basin full of nature'...

From the Webbekomsbroek visitor center you can walk all year round through the natural garden with pools, sunken roads, hay fields and an orchard.

You can get ideas about circular gardening and low-waste gardening.

There are branch walls with an integrated hedgehog and insect home. There is a willow hut and tunnel and there is a willow maze.

A small flock of Soay sheep takes care of the management of the swamp zone. The garden flows seamlessly into the nature reserve.

Both the garden and Webbekoms Broek are accessible free of charge.
