On May 15, 1876, the “Westphalian Railway” opened the 35.8 km long line from Dortmund South to Welver. The Königsborn train station is also located on the route, through which the hard coal from the Königsborn 2/5 mine was transported. Passenger traffic was coordinated with the shift work of the mine workers. The original reception building at that time only included the eastern (right) part of the building with a waiting room and ticket office. A “station office” was later added to the west of the station building, which was a mirror image of the old waiting room. In 1906, a “ladies’ room” was added to the eastern part of the building. In 1901, a 3.82 km long track connection from Unna to Königsborn was opened to traffic. After the mine was closed in 1968, the tracks from Welver to Unna-Königsborn were dismantled. This made the station a terminus. The station is now used by a restaurant.
