Bento (Baruch, Benedictus) Spinoza (or de Espinosa) lived in this house as a guest from 1660 to 1663.
He was a guest of a surgeon that lived in this house. He had a room or two in the house and it was here that he wrote one of his books (about is thoughts on Descartes).
The house has the library that Spinoza kept. The Spinoza Association has slowly managed to reconstitute his library.
The books in his personal library were listed in a registry of his possessions.
When I have a bit more time I will add here a resume of his life and most importantly his significance for modern thought.
