The western part of the cross-border Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve runs along the High Elbe between Tesperhude and Lauenburg.
Wooded, steeply rising Elbe slopes with many incisions and V-shaped valleys characterize the landscape and offer wonderful views of the great river from the beautiful hiking and cycling trails. Regularly flooded alluvial forests in the riverbank areas are the habitat of the beavers, who feel at home here again. A two-kilometer-long beaver nature trail invites you to hike in the footsteps of Europe's largest rodent.
