Research has shown that there are two stories or legends about this stone cross:
1. Position marker at which the lepers were provided with food and clothing after their return from the Crusades (1096-1270).
2. It is said to have been a border mark to which the residents of Ifta were allowed to go to bring food to the sick in Lüderbach during a plague epidemic.
