The Vanšu tilts is a very beautiful suspension bridge in Riga and was spanned with stay cables during the construction works that started in 1979. The construction of this cable-stayed bridge took about 2 years.

The Vanšu Bridge in Riga is a striking cable-stayed bridge that spans not only the Daugava but also an exciting architectural history. Built in the last years of the Soviet era, construction work began in 1979 and the bridge was opened in 1981. At the time, it was considered the longest cable-stayed bridge in Europe, a proud engineering feat for Latvia. With its 109-meter-high pylon, the bridge towers prominently and connects the lively part of Valdemāra Street with the historic Kalnciema Street.

A special attraction is crossing the bridge itself on foot. The view of the Riga skyline and the reflected waves of the Daugava give the walk a certain calm that contrasts with the busy traffic. The structure is not just a building, but also a testimony to Latvia's Soviet history, which can be felt here.
