Nestled in a ravine, Polperro is sheltered from much of the adverse weather along this stretch of coastline. Boasting a delightful jumble of fishermans’ cottages, quirky streets and a traditional harbour, it’s a picturesque village that’s great fun to explore.

In the village is the smuggler museum
, which describes the history of the once very profitable smuggling on the south coast. At low tide, the harbor is dry and the boats are in an inclined position, or lie in the silt.

Small, beautiful fishing town with a smuggling past. The cottages and the mill at the entrance to the town are very nice. We were there at low tide and the boats were lying in the mud.
