1974 taken over by the Herzog - August - Bibliothek and restored.

It now serves as a research library.

The Zeughaus is a historic building in the Lower Saxony town of Wolfenbüttel. It was built between 1613 and 1619 (according to other sources 1617 or 1618) as barracks and storage for war equipment in the late Renaissance style. The building is in the immediate vicinity of Wolfenbüttel Castle and was originally located within the fortress ring of the "Dammfestung". Today the armory is an essential part of the architectural ensemble of the Wolfenbütteler Schlossplatz and is considered one of the largest Renaissance buildings in northern Germany.
