We imagine a hike through the white dune landscape to be very different from what awaits us now when we set off back to the west.
Only on Spiekeroog does a seemingly endless undulating grass landscape stretch between the Wadden Sea and dune elevations, which we traverse on a seemingly indiscriminate meandering path.
Wooden pegs with green markings show the direction at wide intervals.
Monotonous, but never boring, we experience the next five kilometers of pure grassland, through which we, Ursula, continue to walk barefoot.

Attention, the path through the salt marshes is partially flooded! Signs warn anyone who enters it from the National Park House. If you come from the east end of the island like us, you will only see the signs when you are in the middle of the "swamp". Nevertheless, one should not leave the flooded path (nature reserve)! However, it was not always recognizable to us, it was difficult for us to orientate ourselves in the swampy landscape. Wellies are a must, but it might be better to do without them completely so as not to unnecessarily disturb birds.
