The Cajetanerkirche (Church of St. Cajetan) was built between 1685 and 1696 and is one of the few Baroque churches in Salzburg with a dome. It was built by the Theatine monks, an order founded by the Italian saint Cajetan of Thiene – hence its name.
An interesting fact:
The church not only served as a place of prayer, but also had medical significance – the adjacent monastery housed a hospital for the poor and sick.

The Roman Catholic Kajetanerkirche stands on Kajetanerplatz, which is located in the Kaiviertel, in the south of Salzburg's old town. It is named after Saints Maximilian (von Pongau) and Kajetan; the patronage is celebrated on Maximilian's Day, October 12th.
It was built by Archbishop Max Gandolf Kuenburg as the monastery church of the Theatiners, who ran a Theatine monastery there from 1685 to 1808, and consecrated in 1700 by Johann Ernst Graf Thun.
