The Witznitz reservoir is located near Borna in Saxony. The storage facility was put into operation in 1954 as the first larger dam in a residual open pit. It was created in the hollow form of the Witznitz I opencast mine, which was closed in 1945. In the following decades, the storage facility, to which the Espenhain lignite refining plant and the Tierbach power plant were connected until it was closed, developed into the core cell of the process water supply in the southern Leipzig area. Today the new Lippendorf power plant is supplied from here.

A mountain bike would actually have been a better choice for the forest trails. But it's still fun.
