The one known as Casa del Arco, in front of our current City Hall, was the town hall of our town from the 15th century until the end of the 18th century when, due to various damages, its structure was declared a ruin. With this, the construction in 1865 of the neoclassical Town Hall will proceed, which will precede the one we currently enjoy.

This Casa del Arco was recovered to be able to house a chime clock in which the automaton figures of Miguel de Cervantes, Sancho Panza and Don Quixote de la Mancha, at certain times of the day, go outside. It was installed in 2005 to commemorate the IV Centenary of the First Part of Don Quixote and the 750th anniversary of the foundation of Ciudad Real.

This Plaza, “La Plaza” for the citizens of Ciudad Real, is the heart of the public life of Ciudad Real since its foundation as a square for the market on Saturdays, in the 13th century by King Alfonso X of Castilla y León.

It has gone through several urban remodeling of its facades, in a unifying and aesthetic attempt; from the first back in 1728 to the last in 1988.
