This indicates that at the time Trasimeno flooded almost all year round if not constantly. In ancient times the Trasimeno together with the lake of Chiusi and Montepulciano, were part of a vast lake area and were certainly part of a large lake fed by the waters of the Val di Chiana. But the slow work of ancient man modified and "reclaimed" the area, diverting canals and ditches to reduce the lakes. A 100-year monitoring of Lake Trasimeno reveals cyclical periods of dryness (about 20 years) and flooding (about 5 years). Therefore, to a small extent the cyclical nature of climate change and to a large extent the industrial revolutions have brought about the end of a trade and traditions linked to a truly clean form of energy.
