On the 50th anniversary of the official recognition of the Banneux apparitions, this large statue of the Virgin of the Poor was inaugurated. It stands at the entrance to the esplanade and represents Mary blessing Mariette at the fourth apparition.

This 2.10 m high Carrara marble statue was created by Giannoni Marco from Pietrasanta in Italy. It is a gift from the numerous Italian pilgrims who come to Banneux every year. The statue represents the Virgin of the Poor blessing Mariette. (4th and 8th apparitions).

The history of the small hamlet of Banneux is marked by the Marian apparitions which occurred in 1933 to a child of the village, Mariette Beco. After canonical investigation, they are officially recognized and Banneux is transformed into a large pilgrimage center with a so-called 'miraculous' water source and hospice for sick pilgrims (Hospitalité Banneux Notre-Dame) with 300 beds. During the pilgrimage season between May and October, there are daily blessings for the sick and several masses for the pilgrims. (Wikipedia)

This place of contemplation is not only visited by believers, it is also a beautiful place where it is good to walk in peace in the middle of the woods. The buildings are distributed in such a way as to allow the visit of large groups, but outside of pilgrimage it is pleasant to discover them surrounded by beautiful large trees.
