Here, you can admire old wooden water pipes. These were once used to irrigate fields. Chännla is the local name for them, and the word probably comes from Känel, or canal.

Chännla (Suonen Bridge): Until a few decades ago, Valais rye, a particularly drought-resistant plant, was cultivated on the sunny slope of the Mosshubel. Only the eastern foot of the Mosshubel slope could be irrigated. Ernen's water used to come primarily from four waterways fed by the Mühlebach streams. Along with the Trusera, Dorfera, and Chummera, the Wüer, with its eight streams, was the most water-rich watercourse or "bisse" (suone). To irrigate the fields east of the Mosshubel, water was diverted from the Wüer and channeled to the meadows via a hollow supported by wooden channels. These Chännla (suonen) were maintained for generations. After they were no longer needed, replaced by modern irrigation systems, they fell into disrepair. In 1989, they were rebuilt by the Ernen Foundation and the Ernen Local History Museum and Cultural Heritage Association, using old models and documents. Currently, they are dilapidated, and their future is uncertain.
