The school was built in 1889/1890 as a secondary school for girls (lyceum). From 1918 the school was used as a boys' middle school. From 1945 it was the Fontane School, later the School of Peace. After extensive renovations, the building now houses the Montessori elementary school in Neuruppin.

The Montessori Primary School in Neuruppin is a vibrant example of how historical architecture and modern pedagogy can harmoniously coexist.

Originally, the school building was constructed in 1889/1890 as a girls' secondary school (Lyceum) – an expression of the educational reforms of the time and the growing self-confidence of the city's educated middle class. Later, it served as a boys' secondary school, then as the Fontane School, and finally as the School of Peace. Today, the listed building houses the Montessori Primary School in Neuruppin, which, with its progressive educational approach, is pioneering new methods of learning.

The solid brick facade with its clear structure and tall windows, which allow plenty of natural light into the classrooms,

as well as the high ceilings and generous room layout, which create an open and calm learning atmosphere, are entirely in keeping with the principles of Montessori pedagogy.

The building was carefully renovated to meet current requirements for accessibility, safety, and educational functionality without compromising its historical character. It tells a story, writes a future, and combines the dignity of an old educational building with the openness of a modern learning culture. An inspiring place where children not only acquire knowledge but are also allowed to develop as individuals.
