The Scheldt-Rhine Canal connects the Scheldt at Antwerp with Rotterdam and the major Dutch rivers Maas, Waal and Rhine. The canal owes its existence to the Scheldt-Rhine Treaty that the Netherlands and Belgium concluded on 13 May 1963, after almost 100 years of negotiations and litigation on a free navigation connection from Antwerp to the Rhine.

The bridge over the Scheldt-Rhine Canal is the Noordland Bridge. Its name is derived from the Noordlandpolder that once stood here.
The Noordland Bridge is a double truss bridge of the Warren type. One bridge carries two sections of two lanes for road traffic (N101, Scheldelaan), while the other bridge carries a railway line (track 11). A cycle path has been constructed between the two truss sections. The bridge is 260 meters long.
The vertical clearance is 9.1 meters, and the vertical clearance is 120 meters.
