The beginnings of the Ruciane and Nida settlements date back to the 16th / 17th centuries.

Nida is a former fishing village founded before 1595 [7]. In July 1639, the Polish king Władysław IV Waza visited Nida [8] [9]. In 1699, on the site of a fishing settlement and a mill by the Nidka River, a new village was established [9]. The inhabitants of the settlement were engaged in fishing and the production of tar and charcoal. In 1880, there was a civil registry office in Nida, which had 335 people.
In the vicinity of Ruciane, as early as in the 14th century, hammerhouses, tar factories, courtyards, and charcoal burners were operating. The town already existed as a casket settlement and a forester's lodge in the 18th century, the first written mention comes from 1595 [10]. In the first half of the 19th century, there was a forester's lodge and a small forest settlement.
