The city hall of Culemborg is located on the Oude Vismarkt in Culemborg and is used as a meeting room for the city council and as a wedding location.[1] The town hall is a late Gothic, rectangular building from Brabant and was built between 1534 and 1539 after a design by Rombout Keldermans. The order for the construction was given by Elisabeth van Culemborg and her husband Antoon I van Lalaing. The platform sidewalk was placed in 1755 using existing statues of shield-holding lions. The building was renovated and restored between 1939 and 1949 by Albert van Essen 1890-1967 (Voorburg architect). During this work, stained glass windows depicting the history of Culemborg were placed. These were made by the glazier Hans Basart. In addition to being the seat of the city council, the town hall has over the years served as a wine cellar, court of justice, seat of the polder board and meat house. A meat hook in the council cellar still reminds of the latter. Against the west facade of the town hall was the weigh house on which the live cattle were weighed. The building has the status of a national monument.
