When I look at the elephant sculpture, I think: couldn't we replace many of the captive animals with sculptures and dummies? That would be better for them.
You have to make up for what a zoo can't show with animal films anyway. For example, how elephants move through the steppe in large herds. I watch videos like that on my phone right next to the enclosure. Of course, a modern zoo could also install something like that permanently.
