            This church in Speyer is dedicated to Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ. Like Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, he is a man on the threshold between the Old and New Testaments. Joseph came from the House of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by trade and the fiancé of the Mother of God Mary.
            The feast day of Saint Joseph in the calendar of saints is March 19th, and the church also celebrates the feast of "Joseph the Worker" on May 1st.

              The St. Joseph Church in Speyer is really impressive and has an exciting history. The foundation stone was laid on June 9, 1912, and just two years later, on November 22, 1914, the then Bishop Dr. Michael von Faulhaber consecrated the church.

              The church was built to respond to the construction of the neighboring Protestant Memorial Church and to strengthen the Catholic presence in the city. The St. Joseph Church is the second largest Catholic church in Speyer next to the cathedral.

              In the summer of 1917, the painter Ronge from Munich painted the pictures for the side altars, and the Trinity group on the high altar was created by Professor Thomas Buscher, also from Munich. The church was extensively renovated in 1988/89 and the new Wilbrand organ was inaugurated in 1990.
