Isar Sohlschwelle / Isar wave in Plattling NBay.
The best known and probably best standing wave in Lower Bavaria is the Isar Sohlschwelle in Plattling. This is mainly due to the framework conditions. The Isar wave is generated by a sill in the Isar. This is a 30 m wide roller that simulates a white water flow in the Isar. Getting into the wave is relatively easy and the huge eddy catches a swimmer without any problems. The perfect weather for river surfing in the Isar near Plattling is after the snow has melted in winter / spring or when it rains and the level of the river rises. Then you will not only find surfers from the region, but also from Munich, Regensburg, Straubing and possibly even further afield. The higher the water level, the cheaper and better the wave is to surf. River surfing is possible from two meters. After the leash, the line of the surfboard, has been tied around the foot, it's off into the cold waters. With your surfboard you can paddle the wave sideways out of the eddy and let yourself be pulled in with momentum.
