The water basins in the Bahnstadt are being rehabilitated in sections according to the concept of BIOPLAN-Ingenieurgesellschaft, Sinsheim, in order to obtain better water quality.

Due to the fertilization of the surrounding green roofs and the roof terraces, the nutrient input of dissolved phosphorus into the water basin is too high. Due to the insufficient water depth, these lead to maximum algae production. The water must therefore first be filtered in the pools on the side and planted with reeds. By adding iron hydroxide to the filter sand, the dissolved phosphorus can be bound in the filter basin.
Water basin 4 was already renovated in 2017. The water quality here is significantly better than in the other pools. The phosphorus content has been reduced to below 10 micrograms/l.
