I do not know what has happened (maybe, a church service). At other days, there was no queue at all - what one would expect, as here is no entrance fee, no security control or anythhing else what may end in long waiting times!

The Catedral Metropolitana de São Sebastião de Rio de Janeiro (Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Sebastian of Rio de Janeiro), often simply called “Catedral” or “Catedral Nova”, is a Catholic church on the Avenida do Chile in the Centro district of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro . The cathedral, designed by Edgar Fonseca in the modernist style and built between 1964 and 1979, is the seat of the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro.
