There is a lot to discover around the market place. Nice shops, idyllic cottages. In May 2022, the marketplace was redesigned. The Cittaslow fountain is now in the market square. Discreet and yet attractive stands in front of the Café Prima. It comes from the artist couple Gernot and Barbara Rumpf. Big different bronze snails attract attention.

Two interesting “sons” of the Maikammer community were General Hartmann, whose monument stands larger than life on the market square, and the brothers Anton and Franz Ullrich, who invented the hinged rule with a spring lock, known as the “folding meter” for short, here in 1886.

There are many small shops and restaurants to discover around the market square in Maikammer.
On the market square is the monument to Baron Jakob von Hartmann, a Bavarian infantry general who was born in Maikammer on February 4, 1795.
Von Hartmann was named "Knight of Hartmann" in 1843 and was elevated to the rank of baron as "Baron von Hartmann" in 1871.
